Tesla location history: how to see past trips

Find recorded Tesla journeys, understand missing routes and know which history is available after you connect.

On this page

To review past Tesla trips in Odomojo, open Reporting → Trips, choose vehicles and a date range, then select a recorded trip. History is built from updates received while collection is allowed. It begins after setup and tracking approval; connecting an account does not import all the journeys the car has ever made.

That distinction matters if you are trying to answer “where is my car?” versus “where did I drive yesterday?” A current map position answers the first question only as of its timestamp. A dated trip record helps with the second.

What you can look up

For an eligible vehicle sending the necessary data, Odomojo brings together recorded trips, route observations, observed mileage and charging activity by day.

Use this to revisit a drive, check the observed distance for a day, or see where the available route points were recorded. Keep the observation coverage in view: a day with missing readings is not a complete account of the vehicle’s movements.

Tesla’s own mobile app manual describes locating the car and following its movement on a map. Odomojo’s dated history serves a different task: reviewing the information it has collected over time.

How to open a day’s history

  1. Sign in to Odomojo and select the space containing the Tesla.
  2. Open Reporting and choose Trips. You can also use View trips on a vehicle page.
  3. Choose all vehicles or selected vehicles, then set From and To. Shortcuts include Today, Yesterday and Last 7 days.
  4. Read the recorded distance and any loading, partial-day or retention notice. Larger reports offer Load more records; totals cover loaded records until loading finishes.
  5. Choose View beside a trip to inspect its available route.

The displayed times use the space’s time zone. If a drive crossed midnight, check the adjacent date as well. Refresh report retrieves the currently available records for the selected period; it cannot create observations that were never collected.

If the vehicle still shows Finish setup, complete connection and tracking approval first.

Why a route may have gaps

Location reporting can stop when a car loses connectivity. Collection also stops during a customer pause, outside tracking hours, or when access expires. These interruptions can leave an incomplete route or an incomplete day.

For example, imagine a drive with received locations before entering an underground car park and after leaving it. Those points do not establish the path taken inside. Odomojo preserves missing sections rather than presenting an invented line as an observed route.

A gap is a reason to qualify what you infer. It is not proof that the car stayed still, took the shortest route or visited a particular place. If gaps are unexpected, work through the missing-updates checks.

Observed mileage and the car’s odometer

The odometer is the total distance reported by the vehicle at a particular time. Recorded distance in Trips sums the available driving-period distances from nearby usable odometer readings; gaps are excluded. Raw odometer readings remain available under Recorded readings on the vehicle page.

Suppose the car’s total odometer rises by 60 km during a day, but collection only covers part of it. The observed mileage may be lower. It would be misleading to treat that shorter recorded distance as the entire day’s driving.

Use these records to understand the driving that was observed. Odomojo does not currently promise a certified mileage log, tax report or complete record of every journey.

Can I recover trips from before I connected?

Odomojo does not import a pre-existing lifetime route history from your Tesla account. If you connect today, you should not expect last month’s journeys to appear.

Likewise, resuming tracking does not recreate routes for a period you deliberately paused. A trial’s first usable update establishes the start of its 14-day period; it does not backfill older journeys.

If historical evidence is essential to your use case, check what has actually been recorded before relying on it. Do not assume a current location, odometer value or charging receipt contains a complete past route.

How long does history stay available?

The current location-history retention period is 30 days. Your space shows its retention setting. Pausing collection leaves earlier history available within that period; it does not extend retention.

If Reporting shows that earlier readings are outside the retention period, choosing an older date will not restore them. An empty day can also mean that setup was unfinished, collection was not allowed, or no usable data arrived.

Start with one ordinary journey

During your trial, finish setup and check a journey you already know. Review its date, reported times, recorded route and any gaps. Then compare the result with what you need from a tracking service.
