How to track your Tesla: location, history and setup
Choose the right way to find your Tesla now or review past trips, then check what you need before connecting a tracking service.
On this page
Start with the question you want to answer. To locate your Tesla now, open its Location view in the Tesla app. To review recorded journeys across days, use a history service that was collecting during those journeys. These are related tasks, but one current map pin cannot answer both.
This guide helps you choose the right starting point and explains what adding Odomojo involves.
Find your Tesla with the Tesla app
Open the Tesla mobile app, select the correct vehicle and open its location view. Tesla describes locating the vehicle, getting directions to it and following its movement on the map, with availability depending on region. Remote communication needs an internet connection for both phone and car. See Tesla’s mobile app instructions.
For the occasional “where did I park?” check, start there. Check whether the app can reach the vehicle before relying on the displayed position. A car underground or without a connection may not provide a fresh update.
Do not confuse this with Tesla Track Mode, which is a driving feature on certain vehicles. Here, tracking means viewing vehicle location and recorded journeys.
Decide whether you also need a history service
Think about the task rather than a long feature list:
| Your question | Useful starting point |
|---|---|
| Where is my Tesla showing now? | Tesla app Location, with a check that the vehicle can be reached. |
| What route was recorded yesterday? | A history service that was active during the drive. |
| Which of our cars needs setup or has stopped reporting? | Odomojo’s overview and each vehicle’s Current status. |
| Can I limit collection to work hours? | A tracking service with a suitable schedule and pause controls. |
| Can I see drives from before signing up? | Check the service’s import policy first; Odomojo does not import old Tesla routes. |
Odomojo focuses on vehicle monitoring and recorded history in a browser. Keep using the Tesla app for its vehicle controls. You can evaluate whether the additional history and overview are useful before making a longer-term choice.
Check compatibility before choosing a service
Account access is one requirement. Vehicle software, regional availability and the fields the vehicle can report matter too. A list of car models alone does not establish complete compatibility.
With Odomojo, check the vehicle requirements. During setup, the vehicle’s connection progress shows key and software checks. If you are unsure before registration, contact us with the model, year and region; a full VIN is not needed for an initial question.
There is no additional tracker to fit to an eligible Tesla for Odomojo. The service uses the car’s built-in connection. That also means it depends on the data the car can send.
Connect Odomojo in five stages
- Create an account and space. Choose personal or business and review the time zone.
- Authorize with Tesla. Review the access request on Tesla’s sign-in and approval pages.
- Select the car and collection hours. The default is Every day, all day; a weekday option is also available.
- Complete vehicle setup. Pair the key when prompted and resolve any software requirement.
- Approve tracking and look for an update. Check the reported times after data arrives.
The step-by-step Tesla setup guide covers the actual buttons, what to expect after a redirect and how to return to unfinished setup.
Read tracking information with its timestamp
“Tracking enabled” means collection is permitted under the saved settings. It does not mean the vehicle has just reported a location. Likewise, the time you opened a dashboard is different from the time its displayed position was observed.
Read the reported time beside the field you need. If it is older than expected, check the saved tracking hours, pause state and connection progress before assuming the map is current. Use the troubleshooting guide when those checks do not explain the delay.
Keep access and collection under your control
Only connect cars you have authority to monitor and inform the people who use them. In Odomojo, you can pause a vehicle from Current status. Signing out of the website does not pause collection.
Review the app access granted through Tesla when you no longer want an integration connected. Tesla’s guide to third-party access explains where to manage it. An Odomojo pause and withdrawal of Tesla permissions are separate actions.
Evaluate it during the free trial
Odomojo’s trial covers one eligible vehicle for 14 days from its first usable received update after approved setup. No payment card is required; a seven-day setup window applies. Save your billing address in Customer profile and check subscription availability in Billing. See pricing and availability.
Use a familiar journey to check whether the history answers your questions. Look at the recorded route, observed mileage and reporting gaps. A useful trial should show how the service behaves with your own vehicle, not just how it looks before any data arrives.
